One of the author's extremely popular paintings, which is often used to represent his work. The composition is simple and restrained, which cannot be said about the colors. The author used bright oil paints to convey a warm atmosphere and solitude, because this room was his place of strength and creativity during his life in the Yellow House in Arles, France. Here he dreamed of creating a community of artists, but he did not succeed.
This painting had three versions, which are now stored in three different museums. However, they were all similar to each other. The author saw a calming effect in such a flat image, which was supposed to calm the mind and imagination. This is not surprising, because that period was a time for Vincent to search for inner peace and tranquility.
During the Second World War, the house in which the room was located was significantly damaged, and later - completely demolished.
