Reproduction of a painting on a postcard.

A painting by an unknown author, depicting the Assumption Church in the center of Lviv. Given the inscription "Lemberg" and the rather old-fashioned clothing of the characters, we can assume that the painting was painted in 1772–1918.

The church itself was built back in the 15th century. It is a Gothic-style cathedral that acquired features of the Ukrainian Baroque only during its reconstructions in the 17th-18th centuries. In 1939, the church was also damaged, but was later rebuilt. And it was one of the few religious buildings that did not suffer major destruction during the wars.

The Assumption Church was a place of preservation of Orthodoxy at a time when Lviv was a multicultural city. And it remains so today.
